We know that relationships and trust are everything. Our relational approach extends from the management team to the crews in the field, who do the hands-on work for clients—trimming hedges, laying irrigation lines, and building patios.

Our employees are invested not only in creating a beautiful landscape, but being a good steward of your property. That means communicating clearly and frequently, cleaning up after ourselves and paying attention to the details. We take care of you and your yard.

OUR STORY

In 1999, after 34 years with the Forest Service, Jerry Hofer 'retired' and started J's Custom Landscaping with a couple of accounts. In 2001 Jay joined his father and they laid the framework J's still focuses on today: to listen to their clients and give them exactly what they want, and to build a company that employees love to work for.

The J's family may have grown, but still maintains the same values that we started with. When you work with J's Landscaping you can expect us to deliver a beautiful outdoor space with an exceptional customer experience.

After graduating from college and working in sales, Jay and his father joined forces to start J’s Custom Landscaping. These days, Jay runs the business and manages sales, landscape construction, and small project teams and also does much of the design and plant selection. Some say that he “eats, sleeps and breathes landscaping,” but really, it’s the employees and customers that light up his day.

When Jay takes a few moments for himself, you can find him volunteering at church, spending time with his kids, going for a walk or hiking with his wife or rooting for the Seahawks and the Blazers.

Nick's aptitude for creating beautiful outdoor living spaces isn’t the only thing that makes him a VIP on the J's team. Nick's background spans many sides of the landscaping industry, as he's also personally installed just about everything he sells. This experience influences his recommendations on every project, from extensive custom hardscapes installations to planting projects or bark dust refreshes.

When he's not with a customer, Nick loves to ride trails on his quad, cheer on the Ducks football team, hang out and travel with his family including his daughter and his farm animals.

Jason has worn many hats since he joined the J’s team in 2015. Originally brought on to help maintain the trucks and equipment our crews use every day, Jason grew into a crucial component of the J’s administrative team and does everything from creating landscape plans and project management, to driving a plow truck during the winter. Jason loves getting quality time with his family, or you might find him training his boxing and jiu jitsu skills, or working on a motorcycle.

Anthony coordinates customer relations and employee operations at J's Custom Landscaping, handling everything from phone calls to maintenance routes and social media. A former writer with strong communication skills, he works effectively with both clients and crew members. Off the clock, you can find him playing a game of some kind with friends. Marina’s enthusiasm for great communication and tenacious dedication to our customer experience has made her a natural part of the J’s team. She spearheads managing our consultation calendar and is usually the first person you’ll talk to on the phone at J’s, whether you are a return client, or just getting started. She says she’s not able to be superwoman, but we think that might be her secret identity. Her motto we’ve heard many times is “I get to choose to make today a great day,” which sounds a lot like something superwoman would say. When she’s not at work, you can find her being just as essential to her family and church.

Ashley joined the team in 2018, and manages everything on the financial side, from payroll and vendor payments, to taxes and insurance! She is not “just” a professional polymath taking on all kinds of different administrative projects, her personal interests range from art and writing, to playing the violin in a local strings group and playing games with her friends.

Oscar has been at J’s since 2009, and has truly done a little of everything along the way. These days he is a landscape construction crew leader and has become a great asset to J’s not only for his intelligence and communication skills, but his impressive work ethic, even by our standards. Oscar and his crew do projects from a few hours to a few months, with the ability to create custom PNW landscapes that are second to none. When time is of the essence, or we have a particularly challenging workload to manage on a project, we will often bring Oscar’s crew in to make sure the job gets done correctly and on time. Oscar is so great at working with clients with discerning tastes, and helping make their vision a reality.

Pedro is one of our construction crew leads. He has been with J’s since 2010, and has been essential in many, many incredible projects of all sizes. Pedro and his crew can do so many different projects, including block walls, paver patios, plants, irrigation and more. When people ask what his specialty is, we tell them he is the best at taking care of the customer. Clients that get to work with Pedro love his attitude and approach, and will oftentimes hear him and his crew whistling or singing while they make another beautiful landscape.

Sergio our longest-serving maintenance crew leader. He has maintained a few of our properties that have been with us since the very beginning! His attention to detail and professionalism are absolutely top notch, and we often rely on his insight and guidance, not only for instructing our other crews, but for our company culture. Everyone who gets the opportunity to have Sergio work in their yard gets a person who cares deeply about doing an amazing job every time he sets foot on their property.

Steve’s primary focus is equipment maintenance and managing our shop facilities, but that’s just the stuff that will fit on a business card. He’s just as likely to be found helping with a project or an irrigation repair! On nights and weekends, Steve’s mechanical prowess is always getting tested with his offroad vehicle work. He also loves to spend time going to local concerts and events with his wife and kids.

Chris is our lead irrigation technician, and anyone that has ever had to repair or install an irrigation system can tell you there’s a lot that goes into keeping grass and plants happy. Chris’ enthusiasm for plants and excellent attention to detail has made him a favorite with our customers, who know the value of a trustworthy sprinkler tech in your corner. His record keeping and documentation often help us years after a repair if we need to remember or find a photo showing what happened. In his free time, you can find Chris cheering on our local sports teams, especially the Mariners and the Blazers.
